Barry Leisure Park owner looks to build holiday camp

After reporting on Mr Danter’s plan to build a holiday camp on the outskirts of Barry, described as “recreating the glory days”, we went and met the man himself for an in-depth discussion into what his intentions really are.

Mr Danter took us to the 20 acres of derelict land that he sees could really bring back the glory days for Barry.

“The war’s over,” Mr Danter purred in his husky voice as we drove up to the site, located on Hayes Road near the Sully slipway. “Times have changed. Barry used to be the place, but it now has competition, and we need to compete with the competition. We need accommodation. That is why I am investing in Henry Danter’s Holiday Camp.”

Behind the sales pitches; “we are all winners”/ “it’s all good news”, it could really be good news for Barry, with Mr Danter aiming to build a holiday camp that would employ hundreds and accommodate thousands.

Mr Danter plans to use shipping containers, spruced up to build a host of comfy, affordable accommodation for holiday goers who wish to spend their leisure time on the South Wales coastline.

As of now, Barry and District News has been told by Vale Council planning officials that Mr Danter has submitted a planning application that is awaiting certain documentation before it goes to consideration – that consideration process can take up to eight weeks.

At the age of almost 80-years-old, Henry Danter is ready for his next great project

Ten years Mr Danter has been changing the face of Barry Island, and now, nearing his eighties, he says he’s ready to take it to the next level.

“Whether people want to come for a day, that is not enough anymore,” Mr Danter told me as we stood on the dirt that he envisioned would welcomed thousands of holiday goers to the town.

“There is now so much to offer in Wales. Families are not just happy with a day. I want the fortnight holiday goers instead of the day trippers.”

Mr Danter made probably his most powerful pitch under rays of sun containing hints of heat heralding summer.

“What this will bring is jobs to Wales,” smiled Mr Danter, “that is number one. Number two, it will bring money to Wales.

“We could make this site a credit to the country and somewhere people want to come and enjoy themselves.”
